An exhibition on the Legacy of Dr. Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar (Haribhau) May 2 to 30, 2019 at IGNCA, New Delhi.

Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), an autonomous trust of Government of India, Ministry of Culture, New Delhi is going to organize a three days National Seminar on Rock Art to commemorate Dr. V. S. Wakankar Centenary Celebration year at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi, from 2nd – 4th May, 2019.

An exhibition on the legacy of Dr. Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar (Haribhau) will also be held from 2nd – 30th May, 2019.

Rock Art is the earliest expression of human aesthetic desire and an important cultural marker having multifaceted dimensions together with its allied subjects. The seminar propose to address important issues related to theoretical as well as cultural resources associated with rock art of India, its research, status of conservation, its significance in ethno-archaeological context etc. Rock Art studies require a healthy questioning of theoretical framework that have until now framed unquestioned base for the study. In this context, the seminar may throw light on the various aspects of rock art studies in India.

A special session for presentations and discussions on the contributions of Dr. V. S. Wakankar in the field of Indian Rock Art will also be organised.
